Psychoanalysis and Translation
February 7 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am PST
In the ‘Preface’ to The Revised Standard Edition of the Complete Psychological Works of Sigmund Freud (RSE), Mark Solms claims that the act of psychoanalysis is an act of translation. I agree that the task of translation lies at the heart of psychoanalysis. Taking this as my starting point, I shall consider in this talk some of the issues raised by the RSE and its reception.
Presenter
Steven Groarke
Steven Groarke is professor emeritus in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Roehampton, London, and a member of the British Psycho-Analytical Society and the International Psychoanalytical Association. His intellectual interests include modern European philosophy, psychoanalysis, and literature, and he is the author of Managed Lives (Routledge, 2014) and The Feeling Intellect (Routledge, 2022).
