Relational Perspectives on Trauma
June 25, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm PDT
This paper describes analytic work with Valerie, a traumatized patient whose D category attachment disorder and dissociative states emerged slowly over the course of our very long and extensive treatment. I use the brain studies of the neurobiologist Gerald Edelman; the attachment studies of Elizabeth Howell, and the studies of traumatic memories of Arnold Modell in my attempt to understand and work with patients like Valerie, patients who dissociate into a past experience that for them cannot be separated from the present moment.
Presenter
Estelle Shane, Ph.D.
Estelle Shane is a Founder, Training and Supervising Analyst, and Faculty at ICP; a Training and Supervising Analyst, and Faculty at NCP: Clinical Faculty UCLA Dept of Psychiatry; Founder IAPSP; Consulting member IARPP, and in Private Practice.
