Series: Decentralized Learning Experiences
A learning experience can be almost anything, and any licensed clinician can propose one. It can be about a paper, a book or a movie. It can tackle an idea, such as field theory or dream analysis or focus on the work of a theorist. The format can be didactic or it can be a leaderless seminar or a one-hour conversation. It can be a one-off event or a series of weekly, biweekly, or monthly meetings. Currently, this program is in its pilot stage, so certain limits may apply.
Psychoanalytic Inquiry’s Learning Experiences are free.
Not all events are recorded. When we record an event it can be found in the archive.

Selfobject Matrix: The Psychoanalytic Manifestation of Compassion – March 15th | 9:00 – 10:30 AM PT
Osnat Schwartz-Stav, Ph.D. & Eran Rudolphson, MA.
The existential presence of selfobject, which is a core concept in Kohut’s Self Psychology, lays the ground for the archaic, as well as the yet-to-be conceived, parts of the self. The analyst, as a selfobject, can deepen to the very primary levels of the constitution of self, as well as to allow the experience of oneness.” It is a psychic stance…in which you agree to surrender your selfhood for the benefit of the patient’s selfhood…to allow him to become himself through you…The experiential consequence for the analyst involves almost yielding of his self…This by no means is equivalent to annihilation. The opposite is true. This position demands intensive psychic presence, with complex feature of activity and passivity and of eradicating the boundaries between self and other, without trespassing a single ethical mark” (Kulka, 1995).
