Containers act in myriad ways upon our mental states and take a wide range of forms, from another’s mind, to religion, to digital experience. Dr. Levy will present her expanded conceptualization of containers—an elaboration of the work Bion, Ferro and Bollas initiated on transformational experience—arguing that there is great value in attending to our container selections. When we notice the container(s) we are using at any given time, our attention is trained on the present moment. We wake up to it and to our influence over it. Allowing us to ask, ‘Is this the container I need?’ Though we do not like to think about it, or to conceive of it this way, humanity is becoming increasingly reliant on new containers in the form of Artificial Intelligence and digital life.
