Adam Phillips Book Study
Description: This book study examines the forces that drive us, exploring how internal and external influences shape both our worlds and those of our patients—whether constructively or destructively. Through the lens of Adam Phillips, often regarded as Britain’s leading psychoanalytic writer and one of our most original thinkers, we delve into how he illuminated our deepest instincts and impulses.
The structure of the reading group: Discussion of one chapter per month. The current book: On Kissing, Tickling, and Being Bored: Psychoanalytic Essays on the Unexamined Life by Adam Phillips Publisher: Harvard University Press.
Meeting Last Friday of every month, 5:00 to 6:15 p.m.
* November and December meetings are held on the third Friday.
Leading the group: Stacy Berlin, Psy.D., Psy.D. is a licensed psychologist and psychoanalyst. In her professional practice, Stacy takes an egalitarian and contextualist approach within a safe relational framework, integrating creativity, play, and humor. Dr. Berlin practices in Studio City, CA.
